Best Trekking Season and to go in Nepal!

Trekking in Nepal can be undertaken throughout the year. There are four seasons in Nepal. Each season has its distinct appeal. The trekking season in Nepal is classified as follows: Autumn (September to November), Spring (March to May), Summer (June to August) and Winter (December to February). Every season has something special to see and experience in Nepal.

AUTUMN (September-November):
Autumn season is between September and November which is the most popular season for trekking or tour in Nepal which starts immediately after monsoon. During this season, the hills seem too colorful. During this season, major trekking trails in Nepal such as Everest, Annapurna, Langtang region etc. are fulfilled with travelers. So, the best way to avoid the crowds is to choose hiking trails off the beaten path. During this season, many festivals take place such as Dashain the biggest Hindu festival, and Tihar (the festival of lights – second biggest Hindu festival), and  Chhat (the biggest festival of the people of Terai, the plain of Nepal,  This autumn season is considered as the best time for trekking in Nepal, which offers beautiful weather and breathtaking views of the mountains. Moderate temperatures, clear skies with exceptional views, make it a great time to go trekking. Short, occasional storms can discharge snow at high altitudes.

WINTER (December – February):
The winter season falls from December to February. The weather is generally clear and stable. This is the coldest weather, in this season the mist is often found in the valleys and reaches the Himalayas, which makes the sky not very clear, possible to do trekking in the low altitude areas, because the snow falls abundantly at high altitudes. areas that make it difficult for travelers to walk and to the sea the unobstructed views of the mountains etc. But it does not snow in Kathmandu and you can travel to the plain of the Terai region, but in the morning and in the evening it is really cold, it is necessary to prepare for the bad weather This season is characterized by occasional high-altitude snowfall in the Himalayas. Although it is colder at night, it often has clear / blue skies and relatively fewer hikers on the trail. However, we must selectively choose winter trekking, as climbing and crossing passes are not an ideal option. Hikes such as Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Panorama, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Sanctuary, Everest Hiking, etc. can be done even in winter.

SPRING (March – May):
Spring is another most popular season for trekking in Nepal, which falls from March to May. The weather is warmer and the day is long. Can appear  Fauna and Flora as Rhododendron flowers are blooming which makes the trail beautiful and feels amazing. This season is particularly suitable for trekking in high altitude areas, including climbing and expedition. The lower elevation zone is hot and even so hot. Different varieties of wildflowers, especially rhododendrons, make the hill a haunting paradise during the spring. It is slightly warm at low altitude and at high altitude, the view of the mountains is excellent and the temperature is quite moderate.

SUMMER (June-August):
The summer season is a bit difficult to navigate in Nepal which falls from June to August. During this season, it rains heavily and that’s why people avoid trekking, but in Nepal there are many rain shadow areas like Mustang, Dolpo regions where it rains little. But the mountain areas are covered with fog and rains almost every day, the trails are slippery and the leeches are so active, and therefore create difficulties to have better skies and scenery. However, this season is a really amazing season because there is greenery everywhere, The valleys are filled with flowers and butterflies. Whatever the season or when you want to visit Nepal there is something to offer. For the passionate botanist, these times are a blessing for the high valleys and meadows that flourish with flowers and lush vegetation. Trekking in the shadow of the rain (places are out of reach of rain clouds because of the high mountains) areas north of the Himalayas such as Upper Mustang and Dolpo could be an ideal trek choice.

You can do most treks in Nepal like the Everest base camp or the Annapurna sanctuary in autumn, spring and winter, whereas in Upper Mustang, the trek is pleasant even in summer as it will not rain a lot.
